The Background
“A Local Mover Stuck on Page Two”
An established US moving company offering residential, long-distance, commercial, piano, specialty and labor-only moves wanted search to bring in more booked jobs.
The site ranked for the company’s own name, but not for the searches new customers actually type. In the first month we tracked, its average Google position was 13.6, which is page two. “Moving companies [city]”, one of its highest-impression searches, sat at position 15.7.
The goal was simple to state: more quote requests from the website, more calls from Google Business Profile, and page-one rankings for the money keywords across its home city and the surrounding suburbs.
The Challenge
“Visible for the Brand, Invisible to Buyers”
Our audit and first month of tracking showed where the leads were leaking:
- 13.6An average Google position of 13.6, which is page two.
- 15.7Core money searches off page one, including “moving companies [city]” at 15.7 and “movers in [city]” at 31.2.
- 301Key service pages that needed new or rewritten content, and an outdated commercial movers URL that still needed redirecting.
- 0No dedicated pages for the nearby suburbs, so the site had little chance in those local searches.
- { }Missing structured data on the homepage and service pages.
- GBPA Google Business Profile with no regular posting plan and few local citations backing it up.
The business didn’t need a new website. It needed the one it had to show up where local customers were already searching.
The Solution
“Fix the Foundations. Build the Pages. Own the Map.”
We ran a monthly local SEO program across four tracks and measured each one against Search Console, GA4 and Google Business Profile data.
1. Technical Foundations
- Added structured data to the homepage and core service pages.
- Set up a 301 redirect from the outdated commercial movers page to the correct URL.
- Cleaned up the XML sitemap, then reviewed it and robots.txt on a regular cycle.
- Completed a site speed optimization, with ongoing Core Web Vitals checks.
- Diagnosed 12 pages flagged “Crawled, currently not indexed” and resubmitted them to Google.
- Ran full-site crawls to catch structural issues before they cost rankings.
2. Service Pages and Content
- Created or rewrote nine service pages between November and March.
- Launched three new suburb pages, each with its own URL, metadata and schema.
- Published around six researched, SEO-optimized blog posts a month, each submitted for indexing.
- Reviewed content and internal linking across six core service pages.
- Used Search Console data to find high-impression, low-click pages and rework their titles, meta and content.
3. Local SEO and Google Business Profile
- Built a GBP content plan and kept the profile active with regular posts, 16 in November alone.
- Added local citations and business listings to back up the company’s name, address and phone details.
- Tracked map visibility across the service area every month with a local search grid.
4. Authority and AI Visibility
- Identified the top 20 referring domain opportunities and ran outreach.
- Built a steady flow of directory listings, citations and supporting links each month.
- Researched high-quality link targets for the long-distance service page.
- Started tracking visits and leads from AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Copilot in March 2026.
The Transformation
“Before-and-After Data Summary”
Monthly leads, Nov 2025 to Aug 2026
Moving is seasonal and November is the slow end of the year, so we checked the growth against the off-season too. January 2026, still deep winter, brought in 83 leads, almost five times November’s 17. Leads passed 200 a month by May and peaked at 245 in June as the moving season kicked off, and August closed at 133, still 7.8 times where the program started.
| KPI | Nov 2025 | Aug 2026 | Before vs after | % Change |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Monthly leads | 17 | 133 | +682% | |
| Organic clicks | 350 | 693 | +98% | |
| Search impressions | 33,231 | 93,566 | +182% | |
| GBP calls | 54 | 118 | +119% | |
| GBP website clicks | 175 | 306 | +75% | |
| GBP profile views | 2,966 | 4,720 | +59% | |
| “moving companies [city]” avg. position | 15.7 | 5.2 | Page 2 →Page 1 | Page 2 to page 1 |
| Leads from AI assistants | Not tracked | 11 | New |
The Result
“Progress Proven by Data”
- 133 leads in August 2026, up from 17 in November 2025.
- 693 organic clicks a month (+98%) from 93,566 impressions (+182%).
- 118 calls from Google Business Profile in August, more than double the starting point.
- 48 tracked keywords in the top 3 and 82 in the top 10, with “[city] moving companies” at an average position of 1.3 and “moving company [city]” at 1.8.
- 11 leads from AI assistants in August, 8 of them from ChatGPT.
Better rankings on the searches buyers actually use brought in more of the right people. Stronger service pages and an active profile turned more of them into inquiries.
Our Agency’s Role
“Hands-On Local SEO, Every Month”
We ran the program end to end, from the first audit to monthly delivery and reporting:
- Audited the site and built the 3-month and 6-month SEO roadmaps.
- Wrote and optimized the service pages, suburb pages and monthly blog content.
- Managed the Google Business Profile, local citations and link building.
- Handled the technical fixes, from schema and redirects to speed and indexation.
- Reported monthly on Search Console, GA4 and GBP data, including leads from AI assistants.
Key Takeaway
Local leads follow local visibility. Fix the foundations, give every service and suburb its own page, keep the Google Business Profile busy, and even the off-season starts sending inquiries.
